In T. japonica , the ventral valve floor is smooth with a very characteristic median ridge made of three longitudinal series of irregular small tubercles. The dorsal valve has brachial cavities without covering canopies. In T. mawaliana nov. sp. no median ridge is developed (undifferentiated) and the median floor is regularly covered with tubercles.
