Male: Body length 40–45mm; abdomen length 30–33mm; forewing length 37–45mm; hindwing length 29– 33mm; antennae length 25–31mm.

Colouration. Head: Dark brown with yellow brown clypeus and labrum; mandible brown with black apex; maxillary and labial palpus yellow brown. Antenna dark brown with light brown rings and clubbed apex black; eyes black. Thorax: Nota brown and dark brown, without obvious marks. In lateral view prothorax is dark; meso- and metathorax yellow brown. Legs black with bases of femora yellow brown. Wing pale brown, smoky, Sc and R1 with crossveins dark brown; costal area fuscous, pterostigma dark brown, apical area pale brown. Abdomen: Dark brown to black.

Vestiture. Head with dense, long grey-yellow hairs especially on vertex, gena and between antennae; thorax with sparse, long hairs; abdomen with sparse, shorter hairs.

Venation. Apical area of forewings and hindwings with cells in three rows; 5–6 rows cells in cubital area of forewings, 4–5 rows cells in cubital area of hindwings.

Male genitalia. Ectoprocts triangular in ventral view. Gonarcus and parameres united, parameres with a row spines, pelta present.

Holotype male, CHINA: Sihongqi forestry centre, Guangxi Prov., 350m, 1999. V.29, Li Wenzhu (CAU- N 200272).

Paratypes. CHINA: male, Longjin Daqingshan, Guangxi Prov., 1963. V.13, Yang Chikun (CAU- N 200271); male, Longjin Daqingshan, Guangxi Prov., 1963. V.15, Yang Chikun (CAU-N 200261); male, Jinxiu Shengtangshan, Guangxi Prov., 900m, 1999. V.17, Li Wenzhu (CAU-N 200275); male, Fangcheng Fulong, Guangxi Prov., 200m, 1999. V.23, Li Wenzhu (CAU-N 200273).

Distribution. China: Guangxi.

Remarks. This new species is similar to Suhpalacsa fuscimarginata sp. nov., but Suhpalacsa fumiala is notably smaller, the colour in wing costal area lighter than that of S. fuscimarginata , without dark colour in apical area. The smoky colour of wings is different from other species in this genus.

Etymology. fumeus L. smoke; ala L. wing; referring to the smoky colour of the wing.
