Diagnosis. Male and female with fully black bluish shiny body, very smoky wings and black mystax.

Description. Medium sized species (15 ̶ 20 mm), black bluish color and black short setosity on thorax and abdomen. Head. Face and facial gibbosity with black and white setae in female and only black in male; beard white. Antennae with black and white setae; third antennal segment at least longer than first two segments and with pruinosity. Thorax without tomentum, with long black and white setae laterally and posteriorly; black scutellar setae. Wings very smoked and with first posterior cell closed and stalked ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 a). Legs black with abundant black and white setae; tibia and tarsus robust. Abdomen. Black bluish with black setae. Male terminalia with yellow setae and a very developed gonostylus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 b) with short apical tip and longer superior one, sometimes two. Female terminalia long, tubular and with black and white setae.

Biology and ecology. Flight period June to October. They are commonly perched on stumps in the forest edge and forest clearings, mainly of conifer woods, located between 900m and 1500m above sea level. They feed basically on hymenopterans and other dipterans ( Broek & Schulten, 2013; Musso, 1970).
