TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, corrected to Brazil, Santa Catarina by Carter and Dolan (1978:37) .

DISTRIBUTION: Veracruz ( Mexico) to the Guianas, S Brazil, and N Argentina.

SYNONYMS: australis , guianae.

COMMENTS: See Medellin (1989, Mammalian Species, 343).
