TYPE LOCALITY: Paraguay, Asuncion .

DISTRIBUTION: Colombia to Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay, N Argentina, and S and E Brazil; French Guyana; Surinam.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix III ( Uruguay).

SYNONYMS: nigellus .

COMMENTS: Includes nigellus ; see Jones and Carter (1979:8). See Willig and Hollander (1987, Mammalian Species, 275, as Vampyrops lineatus ).
