TYPE LOCALITY: South Africa, Transvaal, near Rustenburg, Bleskap .

DISTRIBUTION: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, perhaps Ghana.

SYNONYMS: erongensis, fitzsimonsi , haagneri , umbratus .

COMMENTS: Subgenus Sauromys ; see Freeman (1981:133, 161). Formerly included in genus Sauromys by Peterson (1965a:12).
