TYPE SPECIES: Vespertilio pipistrellus Schreber, 1774 View in CoL .

SYNONYMS: Arielulus , Falsistrellus , Hypsugo , Perimyotis , Scotozous, Vansonia.

COMMENTS: For synonyms see Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951: 162-163); but also see Hill (1976:25); Kitchener et al. (1986); and Menu (1984). Hypsugo was considered a full genus by Tiunov (1986). Hill and Harrison (1987) would transfer Neomicia and Vespadelus to here from Eptesicus . Otherwise the subgenera they use are followed here.
