TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, Timor (uncertain) .

DISTRIBUTION: All of Australia including Tasmania; E New Guinea; probably Timor ( Indonesia).

SYNONYMS: major , sherrini .

COMMENTS: This bat has been confused with the smaller gouldi in coastal SE Queensland. See Hall and Richards (1979).
