TYPE LOCALITY: Mozambique, Inhambane .
DISTRIBUTION: South Africa to Ethiopia, Sudan, Niger, Mali, and Senegal ; Madagascar; Pemba and Zanzibar.
SYNONYMS: abaensis, africani, culex , fouriei , helios , minusculus , pagenstecheri, pusillulus, stampflii .
COMMENTS: Subgenus Pipistrelli. The oldest name for this species is africani; see Koopman (1975:400).
