Diagnosis. Venation alternating between pale and dark; forewing maculation of rhegma and anastomosis of CuA and CuP+1A linear, shorter than hypostigmal cell, other maculation indistinct. Pronotum with a pair of dark brown wide medial stripes almost completely united, a pair of dark brown wide lateral stripes, a transverse black band connected with the two pair of stripes anteriorly ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2. A – G : C). Spurs extending to apex of the 3rd tarsomere in fore- and midleg, and extending to apex of the 2nd tarsomere in hindleg. Male with a pair of abdominal hair-pencils. Female posterior gonapophysis as long as 1/2 of anterior gonapophysis ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2. A – G : E).

Description. Male. forewing 35–37mm, hindwing 33–35mm, abdomen 21–23mm.

Head. Eyes dark brown, with small dark spots. Face brown with sparse long brown hairs, dark band around antennae. Frons and vertex dark, convex with short white hairs and a pair of small yellowish middle spot. Maxillary palpi, labial palpi and clypeus yellow brown with brown hairs, the last segment of labial palpi fusiform, dark brown with black hairs. Antennae clavate, scape and pedicel dark brown, flagellum comprising about 34 flagellomeres, alternating between brown and yellow, club dark brown.

Thorax. Pronotum yellow brown with sparse black and thicken white long setae, a pair of medial longitudinal dark brown stripes almost completely united, the lateral stripes wide, posterior part of lateral dark margins wide ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2. A – G : C). Meso- and metanotum dark with some indistinct yellow brown stripes and sparse black and white setae.

Legs. Foreleg: coxa brown, covered with long white bristles; femur dark brown; tibia alternating between yellow and dark; tarsus dark except the first segment yellow; spurs and claws red, the apex of spurs slightly bend, extending to apex of the 3rd tarsomere. Midleg similar to foreleg. Hindleg: spurs extending to apex of the 2nd tarsomere ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2. A – G : G).

Forewing. Dark brown, veins color alternating between pale and dark; anterior Banksian line distinct, posterior Banksian line indistinct; Rs with about 10 branches; presectoral area with 5 crossveins and 4–5 irregular cells; the bifurcation of Rs slightly before cubital fork; the anastomosis CuA and CuP+1A and the area of regma with distinct dark stripe which shorter than hypostigmal cell. Stigma pale yellow, large with brown spot at base. Hindwing. The bifurcation of Rs much before cubital fork; presectoral area with 2 crossveins; pilula axillaris present.

Abdomen. Dark, all tergites with long dense black bristles, sternites and pleurites with long white and dark bristles, segment IV inflated with a pair of black hair-pencils ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2. A – G : E) with long black setae; ectoprocts oval, short and broad; lateral gonapophysis chock-like with digging setae; anterior gonapophysis long fingerlike; posterior gonapophysis shorter ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2. Shaanxi. 16.VIII.1984, Wang Anmin leg (CAU-N100046); 1Ƥ, Huoditang, Ningshan, Prov. Shaanxi. 16.VIII.1984, Zuo Guangsheng leg (CAU-N100041); 1Ƥ, Huoditang, Ningshan, Prov. Shaanxi. 14.VIII.1984, Northwest Agricultural college leg (CAU-N100044); 1Ƥ, Huoditang, Ningshan, Prov. Shaanxi. 18.VIII.1984, Hou Jiangnong leg (CAU- N100042); 1Ƥ, Huoditang, Ningshan, Prov. Distribution: China (Shaanxi).

Etymology. Most of specimens of this species were collected from Ningshan, a county in Prov. Shaanxi of China, and the species is named after this region.

Remarks. The species is similar to E. continentalis Esben-Petersen 1935 , but can be distinguished from it by the pattern of pronotum, head color and the length of gonapophyses as described in the key above.
