Type Locality: Paraguay, restricted to "a 27° de lat. Sur" by Cabrera (1958).

Vernacular Names: Greater Naked-tailed Armadillo.

Synonyms: Cabassous gymnurus ( Olfers 1818) ; Cabassous lugubris (Gray 1873) ; Cabassous nudicaudus (Lund 1839) .

Distribution: Uruguay, S Brazil, SE Paraguay, and NE Argentina.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix III ( Uruguay); IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
