HT: ♀ MCZC, No. MCZT_13224 [examined by Fisher & Orth 1972b: 178. They stated, “The female specimen from the Museum of Comparative Zoology that we presume to be Loew’s type bears the following data: on a red label “ Type 13224,” on a blue label “56/226,” on a white label “ Tetanocera spinicornis .” No locality is given, but we assume it is the specimen from Cuba cited by Loew (1866; 1872 republished)” (emphasis added)]. Also examined by LK 1977.

DIST: CUBA ( holotype, specific locality unknown). GUATEMALA ( Alta Verapaz: Cobán; Totonicapán: San Cristóbal Totonicapán). JAMAICA ( Portland: Port Antonio). MEXICO ( Chiapas: Lomatán; Ciudad de México:Acolman de Nezahualcóyotl (Tepexpam); Jalisco:Ixtlahuacan; Michoacán:Pataquero; Oaxaca: Oaxaca; Puebla: Cholula; Veracruz). PUERTO RICO. Also CANADA ( Nova Scotia) and UNITED STATES ( Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia). HOSTS/PREY OF LARVAE: First-instar larvae fed only on the semiterrestrial pulmonate snails Catinella avara and Oxyloma retusa ; second- and third-instar larvae fed on the above two species plus the freshwater pulmonate snails Galba humilis and Helisoma trivolvis and the terrestrial pulmonate snails Cochlicopa lubrica , Discus cronkhitei , and Zonitoides arboreus
