Bagrus passany ZBK Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1840a: 458. Type locality: French Guiana. Holotype: MNHN A-9399 .
Distribution: North and northeastern South America.
Countries: Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana and Brazil.
Habitat: Marine and brackish waters.
Material examined: MZUSP 87701 (1 c&s), Brazil, Pará .
