Distribution. Southern part of Central Europe, Germany (Saarland), southern Europe except for some Mediterranean Islands, Italy; Turkey; Transcaucasia ( Slamka 2013), and Iran including Alborz (Elburz Mt. and Gachsar), Golestan (Gorgan), Hamedan (Alvand Mt.), and Tehran (Lar valley) Provinces ( Lederer 1871; Amsel 1961).

Remarks. There is an intraspecific variation among the examined material in wing markings, even within specimens with the same collecting data. Some specimens have a relatively wide brown marginal band as well as welldeveloped, larger and darker reniform and antemedial spots in the forewing ( Fig. 24E View FIGURE 24 ); while in some others, the marginal band is narrow, and the above mentioned spots are smaller and less expressed ( Fig. 24F View FIGURE 24 ). All the specimens collected in the north-eastern parts of Iran are similar to the latter form and those collected in north-western, west and south-western parts are same as the nominotypical (former) form, except the Marivan population in Kordestan Province which includes both forms. This species has no sexual dimorphism in wing pattern.

As we revealed in this study, there are some variations in the size and partly in the shape of the scelotized spines of cornuti of the examined males ( Fig. 25A‒C View FIGURE 25 ), as well as the shape and length of fibula ( Fig. 25D‒F View FIGURE 25 ). The fibula of single specimen collected from S Borujen, Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad Province ( Fig. 25D View FIGURE 25 ) is distinctly shorter and wider than the remaining dissected males ( Fig. 25E, F View FIGURE 25 ). The external appearance of the latter specimen and other parts of its genitalia including cornuti structure ( Fig. 25A View FIGURE 25 ) is similar to the remaining specimens.
