TYPE LOCALITY: U.K., Scotland, Elginshire, Brodie House .

DISTRIBUTION: North Atlantic and Baltic Sea, temperate to subarctic waters.

COMMENT: The alleged occurrence of this species in the Mediterranean Sea was discussed by P. J. H. van Bree, 1975, Ann. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Genova, 80:226- 228, who considered the evidence unconvincing.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Order Cetacea .
