Distribution. Currently known from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, and Venezuela ( Fig. 204 View FIGURES 204 – 205. 204 ).
Comparative Notes. H. hyalina ( Fig. 103 View FIGURE 103 ) is similar in dorsal habitus to members of the Umbolenta Group ( Figs. 108–110 View FIGURE 108 View FIGURE 109 View FIGURE 110 ). However, the male genitalia of H. hyalina ( Fig. 107) are very different in basic form from those of the Umbolenta Group ( Figs. 111–113). Specimens of the widespread H. hyalina can be differentiated from all, or almost all, South American Hydraena by the maxillary palpi color, which have the last palpomere subapically darker in color than the remainder of the palpomere (e.g., Fig 103 View FIGURE 103 ). Only H. loripes ( Fig. 110 View FIGURE 110 ) has somewhat similar coloration, but that species differs in several respects, including coarser dorsal punctation, different plaque shape, highly modified male legs, and very different male genitalia.
Illustration Notes. A more detailed illustration of the holotype aedeagus is presented ( Fig. 107). The illustration of the spermatheca ( Fig. 181) is that of a specimen from Venezuela .
