Figs. 109 View FIGURE 109 (habitus), 112 (aedeagus), 201 (map)
Type Material. Holotype (male): Venezuela : Amazonas, just S. of Communidad Porvenir, pool in culvert, elev. 87 m, 5° 20.514' N, 67° 45.315' W, 15 i 2009, Short, Garcia (VZ09-0115-03A). Deposited in the MIZA. Paratypes (6): Venezuela : Amazonas, same data as holotype (4 SEMC); Apure, Road between Rio Orinoco and Rio Cinaruco, Morichal margin, elev. 68 m, 6° 30.9' N, 67° 32.604' W, 17 i 2009, Short, Miller, Camacho (VZ09-0117- 01X) (2 SEMC).
Differential Diagnosis. Dorsal habitus very similar to H. umbolenta and H. loripes ( Figs. 108–110 View FIGURE 108 View FIGURE 109 View FIGURE 110 ). This species is differentiated from H. loripes by the carinate plaques and the shallower pronotal foveae; differentiated from H. umbolenta by the presence of foveae PF2 and, in males, by differently shaped tibiae. The aedeagi of H. kellymilleri and H. loripes show a distinct relationship, as do the serrate condition of the last tergite of females (non-serrate in H. umbolenta ). The aedeagi of the three species, while having distinctively different details, also show a relationship ( Figs. 111–113).
Description. Size: holotype (length/width, mm): body (length to elytral apices) 1.23/0.53; head 0.20/0.32; pronotum 0.31/0.40, PA 0.35, PB 0.37; elytra 0.73/0.53. Dorsum of head piceous; pronotum testaceous in front of and behind piceous fascia, ratios of color bands, as measured in midline, ca. 5/10/5, fascia laterally smaller and more lightly colored; elytra brown, columellae slightly darker than interstices; legs testaceous; maxillary palpi testaceous, tip not darker.
Frons punctures ca. 1xef, not larger and denser near eyes; interstices effacedly microreticulate, weakly shining, 1–2xpd. Clypeus dull, microreticulate, very finely sparsely punctulate medially. Mentum very sparsely very finely punctulate, effacedly microreticulate, weakly shining; postmentum very finely densely micropunctulate and dull in median area, surrounding areas smooth, shining. Genae raised, shining, without posterior ridge.
Pronotum weakly arcuate laterally; anterior margin straight behind eyes, emarginate behind frons, scintilla absent; punctures on disc larger and deeper than those on frons, interstices weakly shining, 0.5–2xpd, punctures slightly larger and denser at anterior and posterior; PF1 absent; PF2 shallow; PF3 deep; PF4 very shallow.
Elytra weakly arcuate laterally; summit of posterior declivity at ca. midlength; lateral explanate margins narrow; on basal 1/3 punctures ca. 1xpd largest pronotal punctures, punctures becoming slightly smaller and more widely spaced toward posterior. Intervals not raised, shining, on basal 1/3 ca. 1–2xpd, as are interstices between punctures of a row, a few punctures subserial. Apices in dorsal aspect conjointly rounded, in posterior aspect margins forming moderate angle with one another.
Ratios of P2 width and plaque shape (P2/w/l/s) ca. 2/0.5/5/4. P1 laminate; median carina sinuate in profile. P2 l/w ca. 2/1, sides slightly diverging toward blunt apex, apex raised slightly above mesoventral intercoxal process. Plaques very narrow, carinate or subcarinate lines, straight, slightly converging toward one another anteriorly, located at sides of deep median depression. Metaventrite with very short points on each side, extended posteriorly from margin of each mesocoxal cavity. AIS width at straight posterior margin ca. 2x P2. Protibia arcuate, medial margin with sparse row of setae in proximal 2/3. Mesotibia very slightly arcuate, less so than protibia. Metatibia slender, arcuate, ca. to same degree as protibia. Male abdominal apex symmetrical; last tergite with small apicomedian notch. Female (microslide mount, n=1): last tergite sharply rounded, free margin serrate, ca. 20 hooked setae, some appear to be in pairs, setae extended beyond serrations for distance about equal to serration length; gonocoxite not midlongitudinally divided, apical margin sharply rounded, low transverse ridge evident at border of microreticulation; spermatheca type C2, process small, accessory gland cup one-sided.
Etymology. Named in honor of the collector, Kelly Miller.
Distribution. Currently known from two localities in southern Venezuela ( Fig. 201).
