A Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Rodentia : Cricetidae , but they have also been collected from Rodentia : Myocastoridae , and Soricomorpha : Soricidae ; adults alone have been collected from Carnivora : Canidae , Lagomorpha : Leporidae , Rodentia : Castoridae , and Passeriformes : Muscicapidae ; immature stages have been recovered from Artiodactyla : Suidae , Rodentia : Muridae , Squamata : Viperidae , and Passeriformes : Fringillidae . Ixodes apronophorus is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: the redescriptions of the male, female and nymph of Ixodes apronophorus in Emchuk (1960) are not recognized in Filippova (1977), and these redescriptions are not included in the above lists. Estrada-Peña et al. (2017) found no reliable morphological characters for separating males, females, nymphs and larvae of Ixodes apronophorus from related species occurring in Europe and North Africa. Morphological and molecular differences have been found between populations of Ixodes apronophorus from Western Siberia ( Russia) ( Rar et al. 2020) and Romania ( Andersson et al. 2018), possibly indicating that more than one species exists under the name Ixodes apronophorus .
