A Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Suliformes : Phalacrocoracidae , while larvae alone have been collected from Passeriformes : Motacillidae . There are no records of Ixodes unicavatus causing human parasitism.

Note: Estrada-Peña et al. (2017) found no reliable morphological characters for separating the male, female and larva of Ixodes unicavatus from similar species in the genus occurring in Europe and North Africa.
