An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Peris-sodactyla: Rhinocerotidae ; larvae and nymphs have been collected from Rodentia : Muridae .Adults alone have been recovered from Mammalia (several orders), with a rare record from Squamata : Varanidae . Dermacentor rhinocerinus is a very rare parasite of humans.
