An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae , but they have also been collected from Carnivora : Canidae , and Lagomorpha : Leporidae . Adults and immature stages have been taken from Carnivora : Canidae , Felidae and Herpestidae ; immature stages have been recovered from Carnivora : Hyaenidae and Viverridae , Macroscelidea : Macroscelididae , Perissodactyla : Rhinocerotidae , Rodentia : Muridae , Galliformes : Numididae , Passeriformes : Alaudidae , Corvidae , Pycnonotidae and Sturnidae , and Pelecaniformes : Threskiornithidae ( Guglielmone & Robbins 2018, Horak et al. 2018). Haemaphysalis silacea is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: the redescription of the female and description of the male of Haemaphysalis silacea in Bedford and Hewitt (1925) are ignored in Theiler (1945c) and Hoogstraal (1963), probably because Bedford and Hewitt (1925) explicitly recognized differences in their own redescription of the female in relation to the original description. The study of Bedford and Hewitt (1925) is therefore not included in the lists above.
