An Australasian, Nearctic, Oriental and Palearctic species ( Guglielmone et al. 2015) whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Cervidae , and Perissodactyla : Equidae . Haemaphysalis longicornis is a frequent parasite of humans.

Note: Haemaphysalis longicornis has been extensively confused with several species of Haemaphysalis , but chiefly with Haemaphysalis bispinosa prior to the study of Hoogstraal et al. (1968b). Redescriptions of Haemaphysalis longicornis under the name Haemaphysalis bispinosa are not included in the above lists. Elom et al. (2020) allegedly found Haemaphysalis longicornis in Nigeria (Afrotropical Region), but this record requires confirmation. See also Haemaphysalis davisi for its confusion with Haemaphysalis neumanni , a synonym of Haemaphysalis longicornis .
