Halichondria flabellifera Bowerbank, 1882: 107 , pl. VII figs. 4–10 (in: Bowerbank & Norman 1882); Stephens 1912: 32.

This species was described by Bowerbank from Westport Bay, Ireland, approximate coordinates 53.81°N 9.9°W, depth 9 m (holotype BMNH 1910.1.195). Stephens (1912) examined type slides labeled with this name and found they contained a mix of two species, Myxilla rosacea and an unidentified species of Mycale . Despite this, the name remains available (ICZN art. 17.1). Since most of the spicules belong to Myxilla rosacea , I propose to reassign the compound specimen to Myxilla (Myxilla) rosacea (Lieberķhn, 1869).
