Type Locality: Cameroon.
Vernacular Names: Target Rat.
Synonyms: Stochomys hypoleucus (Pucheran 1855) ; Stochomys ituricus ( Thomas 1915) ; Stochomys sebastianus (De Winton 1897) .
Distribution: Tropical evergreen forest; recorded from Togo, S Nigeria, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Dem. Rep. Congo, and Uganda.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Rosevear (1969) described the historical allocations of longicaudatus to Aethomys , Dasymys , Epimys , Mus , Rattus , and Stochomys . Morphometric analyses, which resulted in distinguishing two distinct subspecies, reported by Van der Straeten (1984).
