Ophion politior Morley, 1912: 56 View in CoL . Lectotype ♀, Brazil (BMNH), designated by Townes & Townes (1966: 169) [Synonymized by Townes & Townes, 1966: 169].

One of the commonest American ophionines. Gauld (1988) gives a complete description of the species. Data label from collections suggest that it is also the most common and widely distributed Ophioninae in the island. Most of the Cuban host records are from Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) View in CoL ( Noctuidae View in CoL ) in maize; but other authenticated records I have seen include Spodoptera sunia (Guennadius) in tobacco, and Spodoptera sp.

MATERIAL EXAMINED: About a hundred of Cuban specimens from all studied collections and the following localities: WC. PR: Soroa, Candelaria; Pica Pica & Sumidero, Minas de Matahambre. LH: Laguna Ariguanabo, Bauta; San Antonio de los Baños. IJ: Nueva Gerona. MT: Central 6 de Agosto, Calimete. CC. VC: Cubanacán, Pelo Malo, Santa Clara & Universidad Central, Santa Clara; Manicaragua; Remedios. CF: Finca Zayas, Guaos, Cienfuegos. SS: Manacal, Topes de Collantes; El Jíbaro, Mapos & Peralejo, La Sierpe; Sancti Spiritus. CA: Ceballos, Ciego de Avila. EC. GR: Río Bayamo & Peralejo, Bayamo; Buey Arriba; Manzanillo.
