Filago arvensis var. ramosa Rouy (1903: 175) = Filago arvensis Linnaeus (1753: 856) View in CoL
Lectotype (designated here): ― Illustration in Oeder, Fl. Dan. Tabula MCCLXXV, 1806.
Epitype (designated here): ― SPAIN. Ávila, Piedrahita, Santiago del Collado, Arroyo del Prado de los Peces, 1593 m, 21 June 2006, Andrés-Sánchez, García-Barriuso, González-Canalejo & Rico SA85 (SALA134283!).
Protologue citation: ― “Fries Nov. Ed. 2, p. 267; Fl. Dan., t. 1275”.
Note: ― The illustration chosen as lectotype is the only original material found for this name. But it is not depicted with enough resolution and some morphological details (e.g., indumentum of the achenes, and consistence of the involucral bracts) are not observable. These characters are essential to discriminate this taxon from closely related species. For these reasons we propose an epitype, which is one of the samples included in the phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data presented in Galbany-Casals et al. (2010).

Additional specimens examined: ― SPAIN. Baleares: Sables maritimes de Molinar à Palma, July 1911, F. Bianor 1261 (isolectotypes LD1019588 photo!; MA124165 !; MPU-COSTE!; M) .
Protologue citation: ― “ Baléares: sables maritimes du Molinar, près Palma. ( F. Bianor.)”.
Note: ― Wagenitz (1966) indicated two vouchers preserved at LD and M as original material for F. bianorii but he did not choose a lectotype. We have found three additional sheets, which are original material for this name. We propose BC874215 as lectotype.
Filago bolivarii Caballero (1915: 287) View in CoL = Filago congesta Gussone ex Candolle (1838: 248) View in CoL
Neotype (designated here): ― MOROCCO. Mont-Aroui , Tiztoutine, 34º59’43.3’’N 3º3’25.7’’W, 14 March 2008, Andrés-Sánchez, Martínez-Ortega, Peñas & Lorite SA147 ( SALA134198 About SALA ). GoogleMaps
Protologue citation: ― “Habitat in cultis prope Melilla in loco dicto Posada del Cabo Moreno. April”.
Note: ― There is a voucher kept at MA (MA124064!) containing plants collected by Caballero in Posada del Cabo Moreno in April 1912. This sheet could be considered as possible original material relevant for the typification of the name F. bolivarii . But it consists of three individuals, which clearly correspond to F. pyramidata Linnaeus (1753: 1199) . However, Caballero in the protologue was clearly trying to describe F. congesta , a species characterized by bearing inner florets functionally male with ovary sterile (“floribus disci 5–6 ebracteatis sterilibus”) and by its achenes lacking a pappus (“achaeniis disci eppaposis”). The sheet MA124064 contains specimens that show inner florets hermaphrodite with fertile ovaries and achenes with pappus. These characters are so evident and in apparent conflict with the protologue, that it seems reasonable to accept that they were not used to elaborate the validating description of F. bolivarii . As no further possible original material has been found, we choose a neotype for this name, which is in accordance with the protologue. We select as neotype a collection from a locality close to that of the type.
