Cheumatopsyche sandrae Oláh & Johanson , new species

This species belongs to the C. costalis species group, although the smooth mesocaudal lobes of segment X are slightly convex. The species is close to C. mariannae , new species, from which it differs by having a convex, not straight mesocaudal area; cylindrical harpagones in ventral view, not broad at basis; and apicoventral setose lobes being clearly capitate, not dorsally flat in lateral view. The phallotheca has a short ventral subapical broadening, not long like in C. mariannae .

Male. Body and wings pale brown, with brown pubescence. Maxillary palp formula I-(III, IV)-II-V, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Antennae longer than forewings. Head dorsum dark brown, with 7 dark brown setal warts. Swollen setal wart absent on proepisternum. Setal wart present on both precoxale. Spur formula 244. Protibiae with small postroapical spur. Pretarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle.

Wings. Forewing membrane uniformly coloured, with darker veins. Forewing crossvein m-cu located apically of crossvein cu by distance equal to half crossvein length. SR and R, and Cu1 and A1 separate. Hind wing Sc and R confluencing apically of crossvein r by a distance equal to 3 times crossvein length. Crossvein r located basally of crossvein s at distance equal to half crossvein length. Fork 1 absent. Forewing length 6.5 mm.

Male genitalia. Abdominal segment IX fused annularly, tergum slightly shorter than sternum ( Fig. 353). Anterior margins of segment IX regularly bow-shaped, nearly flat dorsally in lateral aspect ( Fig. 353). Apical lobe on posterolateral margins small, forming obtuse angle located above less sclerotized articulation cavity of gonocoxites. Antecosta well developed, present in single, irregular line, narrowing before margin ( Fig. 353); external groove of antecostal suture well developed. Spine row on posterior margins of segment IX continuous. Spines on dorsolateral spiny lobes slightly longer than spines in row running ventrad and on apical lobes. Intersegmental step between segments IX and X filled, sloping. Segment X moderately long; body triangular in lateral view ( Fig. 353), regularly quadrangular in dorsal view, except broadening apically ( Fig. 354); bilobed in dorsal view. Dorsal interlobular gap wide, shallow ( Fig. 354). Transverse suture present on both sides, crosses obliquely segment X before apex ( Fig. 353). Longitudinal suture on both sides continues from apicoventral setose lobes; meeting transverse suture in Y; transverse sutures running obliquely across segment, dividing it into large less sclerotized basal part, and short strongly sclerotized distal part. Smooth dorsomesal plate slightly convex; short apicoventral setose lobes fusing with segment X along mesal margin before apex ( Fig. 353); apex curving slightly mesad; tapering in dorsal view ( Fig. 354); setae restricted to tip of apices. Lateral setose areas (superior or preanal appendages) forming large, elevated warts located distally at basis of apicoventral setose lobes; surrounded basally by longitudinal sutures, and anteriorly by transverse sutures. Coxopodites exceeding apex of segment X, forming straight, parallel-sided, rod, except slightly curving ventrad and dilating apically ( Fig. 353); with nearly straight lateral margins in ventral view ( Fig. 355). Harpagones originating from ventral corner of coxopodites; slender, curving slightly dorsad in lateral view ( Fig. 353); straight in ventral view ( Fig. 355). Phallotheca with slightly convex dorsum; constricting before apex, ventral margin concave, broadening subapically ( Fig. 356). Endophallus tube-shaped, filling almost entire phallotheca. Chitinized endothecal process elongated ovoid. Phallotremal sclerites broad, oriented vertically. Vestigial, membranous, ventral endothecal lobes slightly visible at tip of subapical ventral broadening.

Holotype male: INDIA: Karnataka, Shimoge District, Jog Falls , MV lamp, 2–8.iii.1980 [Gy. Topál] - ( OPC).

Paratypes: same data as holotype - 87 males ( OPC) .

Distribution. India (Karnataka).

Etymology. The name of this species is dedicated to Sandra, the grand daughter of Professor János Oláh.
