Hydropsyche ungulata , new species group

In this paper the genus Herbertorossia is synonymised with the genus Hydropsyche and their species are placed in this group. They are similar to the species in the Hydropsyche asiatica species group, but the species in the Hydropsyche ungulata species group have asymmetrical pretarsal claws, and shortened maxillary palp segment V. The species have phallic apparatus with simple sclerotized endothecal process and phallotremal sclerites. The phallotheca is curiously curved in some species. The sclerous endothecal processes (outer lip) are shell-shaped and movable, sometimes expanded, abducted, or even adducted in preserved specimens. The only other terminal phallic process present is the paired, smaller, but heavily sclerotized phallotremal sclerites (inner lip). Vestigial ventral endothecal membranous processes are present in some species. The species in the group are restricted New Guinea.
