Hydropsyche gifuana View in CoL species group

The males of the species in this group have segment X composed of 2 lobes and no apical appendages. The apex of the phallotheca has a notch-like, apicodorsal opening, housing a pair of small, lobe-like, phallotremal sclerites. The phallotremal sclerites are mostly covered by the apical portion of the phallotheca. Sclerous, or membranous, endothecal processes are lacking. Two pairs of setal rows are present. In the female genitalia the clasper groove is broad and partially invaginated, forming a cavity under the dorsal cap, and they lack clasper receptacle. The larval abdomen has long, wide, scale-like, setae and posterolateral gills on the abdominal segments. This species group is restricted to Japan. According to Tanida (1987) one member of the species group, H. gifuana , has male genital structure resembling species of the Nearctic Hydropsyche depravata species group.
