Cheumatopsyche pali species group

This small species group comprises possibly primitive species having process-like preanal appendages. The species are characterized by the presence of elongated preanal appendages. Elongated preanal appendages are otherwise present only in a few hydropsychine genera ( Hydromanicus , Calosopsyche and Potamyia ) and in the Cheumatopsyche they occur only in this group. In some species the preanal appendages are enlarged or even elongated into a process-like structure, like in C. tanidai Oláh & Johanson , new species, in the Cheumatopsyche lepida species group. Four species are classified into the Cheumatopsyche pali species group: C. comorina (Navás) from the Comoros Islands, C. vala Malicky from Anjuan Island, C. mattheei Mey from Kenya, and C. pali Oláh & Johanson from Madagascar. Two Mexican species of the former Plectropsyche genus with similar characters also fit into this group and are preliminary classified as so.
