Hydropsyche calawiti species clade

The H. calawiti species clade was established by Mey (2003). The species in the clade are characterized by the reduced membranous endothecal lobes being replaced by the sclerotized part of the phallic apparatus. The apex of the phallic apparatus is deeply cleft, and together with the sclerotized phallotremal tongue in the middle, forming a trifid phallic apparatus apex. A small, subapical part of both phallic lobes remained membranous and form a pair of short subapical lateral appendages. The apical spines of the erectile lobes are shifted to the tips of the nearly apical, proximally directed appendages. The phallotremal tongue is narrow, but broader than the lateral lobes, and has a bifid apex.
