Hydropsyche sagittata Martynov, 1936: 306 View in CoL .

Type locality. India .

New record: INDIA: Karnataka, Shimoga District, Jog Falls , 02.iii.1980, collected on MV lamps (Gy. Topál) — 1 male ( OPC, alcohol) .

We have found additional characters not mentioned in the otherwise detailed original description of the species, and here we re-describe this widely distributed species.

Male. Body and wings brown with light pubescence. Maxillary palp formula I-II-( III, IV)- V, segment V as long as segments I– IV together. Head dorsum dark brown, with 9 dark brown setal warts. Swollen setal wart present on proepisternum. Pretarsal claw asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Spur formula 244. Protibia with posteroapical spur smaller than anteroapical spur.

Wings. Venation typical for the genus. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu separate. Sc and R, and Cu2 and A separate before costa. Hind wing Sc and R meeting before costa about at crossvein r. Stem of M and Cu1 situated closely. Median cell closed. Fork 1 present. Forewing length 6.8 mm, hind wing length 5.1 mm.

Male genitalia. Abdominal segment IX fused annularly, short. Median keel long, wide ( Fig. 142), dorsal surface granulose; lateral surfaces flat; anterior margin arciform, ventrum short, dorsum 2 times longer than ventrum ( Fig. 141). Antecosta on both sides narrowing dorsally before margin ( Fig. 141); external groove of antecostal suture present. Apical lobe on posterolateral margins robust, broadly triangular, comprising most of segment IX ( Fig. 141). Posterior spine row continuous, absent on dorsum ( Fig. 141, 142). Depression between segments IX and X widely V-shaped, obtusely angled. Body of segment X broad; rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 141); quadrangular in dorsal view ( Fig. 142). Lateral setose areas (preanal appendages) located centrally ( Fig. 142), diffuse into loosely packed group of setae. Apicoventral setose lobes modified into pair of long, dorsad spines. Dorsal interlobular gap V-shaped, long, wide. Apicodorsal setose lobe shifted dorsally, flat, setose surface on bottom of V-shaped inner rim of dorsad curving apicoventral lobe. Smooth cavity on segment X absent. Darkly pigmented, transverse suture runs ventrally on each side from bottom of intersegmental depression. Longitudinal suture well sclerotized on each side, running below lateral setose area, parallel with ventral margin of segment X ( Fig. 141). Coxopodites long, slender, dilating distally from mid-length. Harpagones slightly tapering, curving dorsomesad ( Fig. 141, 143). Phallic apparatus simply bent ( Fig. 144), broadening along ventrad curving basal section. Phallotheca with unusual sclerous dorsal hump at mid-length ( Fig. 144). Phallotremal sclerites absent. Phallothecal apex with ventral phallothecal lobe wide, bilobed, central incision wide ( Fig. 145). Pair of dorsolateral membranous lobes directed anterad, apices with minute, broad spine.
