Genus Heteropriapulus Kritsky, 2007 View in CoL
[New Japanese name: kagi-magari-era-mushi-zoku] Heteropriapulus heterotylus ( Jogunoori, Kritsky, and Venkatanarasaiah, 2004) [New Japanese name: kagi-magari-era-mushi]
Heterotylus heterotylus Jogunoori, Kritsky, and Venkatanarasaiah, 2004: 116–117 View in CoL , figs 1–7.
Heteropriapulus heterotylus: Kritsky 2007: 233 View in CoL ; Li and Huang 2012: 117–119, fig. 2; Nitta and Nagasawa 2013: 281–283, fig. 2; Rodríguez-Santiago et al. 2015: 58–61.
Material examined. Six, five, and four specimens collected from the Asatomata River (RUMF-ZF-00013), the Hija River (NSMT-Pl 6193b, 6194b together with two specimens of U. brittani ), and the Sembaru Reservoir (RUMF- ZF-00014), respectively .
Host. Vermiculated sailfin catfish, Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus ( Siluriformes : Loricariidae ).
Site of infection. Gill filaments.
Prevalence and intensity range (mean). 100% (2/2) and 3–9 (6) in the Asatomata River; 90% (9/10) and 1–5 (2.6) in the Hija River; 60% (3/5) and 2–45 (16.3) in the Sembaru Reservoir.
Remarks. In Japan, Nitta and Nagasawa (2013) first reported this monogenean from P. disjunctivus in the Sembaru Reservoir, Okinawa-jima island, Okinawa Prefecture. The same species was newly collected in this study from the Asatomata River and the Hija River. At present, H. heterotylus is known to occur in India, China, Japan, and Mexico ( Jogunoori et al. 2004; Li and Huang 2012; Nitta and Nagasawa 2013; Rodríguez-Santiago et al. 2015). The dorsal anchor length [39±0.9 (38–40, n =8)] reported by Nitta and Nagasawa (2013: 282) was wrong; the corrected measurement of their specimens (NSMT-Pl 6030) is “20±0.6 (19– 21, n =8)”.
Japanese names. The new Japanese generic and specific names are a combination of “kagi-magari” and “era-mushi” which mean curved anchor and gill monogenean, respectively (“zoku” means genus).
