Remarks. Hawaiian populations, which are genetically distinct ( Malay & Paulay 2010) and have a characteristic color pattern (Hoover 1999), most probably represent a different but yet undescribed species.

Geographical distribution. Across Indo-West Pacific region.

Habitat. Intertidal, shallow subtidal to 10 m.
