sp. nov.

Asytesta cordis Setliff , new species ( Figs. 3–4 View Figs , 7–8 View Figs )

Diagnosis. Very close to A. cornuta , but differs in having a dark, cordate-shaped ring or macula and a pair of large cream-colored maculae on the pronotal disk. The fourth elytral intervals each have small, pale maculae at the humeri, and the apex of the aedeagus is strongly bifurcate.

Description of Holotype. Male ( Fig. 5 View Figs ). As in A. cornuta except as follows: length 7.1 mm, width 4.0 mm, rostral length 2.7 mm. Body elongateoval, length 1.7X width; pronotum 1.1X broader than long, broadest near middle; elytra 1.2X longer than broad. Pronotal disk with pair of curved, black vittae outlining a cordate-shaped patch of lighter scales at its center; pair of large, sublateral, cream-colored maculae at posterior margin, aligning with macula on 4 th interval on each elytron; 13 small, circular, white maculae arranged in transverse rows, 2 maculae near apical margin, 6 maculae in a row before middle, 5 maculae in irregular row behind middle. Elytra mottled, densely covered with interspersed tan and brown scales; 4 th intervals each with small cream-colored macula at humeri and elongate black macula near middle of disk. Pronotum with thin, dorsomedial carina visibe through scales near center of disk. Genitalia: Body of aedeagus weakly curved, 1/3 as long as apodemes; apex strongly produced and bifurcate. Endophallus with pair of elongate, apodeme-like basal sclerites ( Figs. 7, 8 View Figs ).

Variation. Length 5.6–7.1 mm, width 2.7– 3.4 mm, rostral length 1.9–2.7 mm. The center of the cordate-shape patch on the pronotal disk of one paratype is entirely filled with fuscous scales forming a contiguous dark cordate-shaped macula. On this specimen, there are also two small, white maculae situated at the center of the cordate patch instead of one as in the holotype. The dorsomedial carina on the pronotal disk is not visible through the scales in either of the paratypes.
