Known from northern Andes ( Colombia to Peru), the Galápagos Islands, and Central America ( Costa Rica, Guatemala), from Panama hitherto known from Los Santos.

Otigoniolejeunea huctumalcensis (Lindenb. & Gottsche) Y.M.Wei, R.L.Zhu & Gradst. [= Physantholejeunea huctumalcensis (Lindenb. & Gottsche) Heinrichs & Schäf. -Verw.; = Lejeunea huctumalcensis Lindenb. & Gottsche ; = Ceratolejeunea dentato-cornuta Steph. ]

Chiriqui: Loc. 21, epiphyllous on fern frond, c. per. and c. andr. (autoicous), 1640 m, 34417/ A .

Widely distributed in tropical America, ranging from Mexico to Bolivia (including the Cocos and Galápagos Islands), the West Indies, Guayanas and Brazil, from Panama reported from Chiriqui ( Reiner-Drehwald & Ilkiu-Borges 2007, as Lejeunea ) and Darién ( Stotler et al. 1998, as Ceratolejeunea dentato-cornuta Steph. ).

Based on phylogenetic evidence, this species was recently transferred to Physantholejeunea ( Czumay et al. 2013) and consequently combined under Otigoniolejeunea ( Wei et al. 2014) .
