Tremapterus View in CoL (nominate subgenus) Spinola

Distribution. Africa, mainly south of the Congo basin; one species reported from Somalia.

Diagnosis. Face tawny with dark muscle arcs, or blackened next to antennal ledges, or with indefinite dark area on disc of frons, to entirely black; crown unmarked. Pronotum shallowly declivous, punctate to coarsely, transversely furrowed ( Figs 6 View FIGURES 3 – 6 F–G); tegmina densely pitted, often with sinuous grooves, especially on clavi; veins obscure when not outlined with dark dots; pecten of 2nd tarsomere of hind leg with 8 black-tipped spines. No appreciable sexual dimorphism. Ovipositor with 2nd valvulae short, pointed, with 1 low tooth on dorsal surface beyond midlength ( Figs 10 View FIGURE 10 F–K). Length: 3–5 mm.

Included taxa. There are 7 species in this subgenus, of which 2 are new to science.
