Material examined. SMF 35112 (1: 8.5 cm); SMF 35113 (1: 7.8 cm); KAUMM 155 (1: 8.4 cm).
Remarks. Lagocephalus sceleratus (Gmelin, 1789) is a similar species characterized by the presence of small Black blotchs dorsally and more rays in dorsal (11–13), anal (9–12), and pectoral fins (16–18) ( Randall 1995). Trawled specimens have dorsal-fin rays 10 or 11 (10: 2, 11: 1), anal-fin rays 8 or 9 (8: 1; 9: 2), and pectoral-fin rays 16, and brown blotches and spots dorsally.
