Diagnosis. Tomarus rostratus is characterized by the antennal club subequal in length to antennomeres 2–7; clypeus trapezoidal (base 2 times wider than apex); frontoclypeal tubercles transverse; pronotum nearly smooth, with minute to small, sparse punctation; pronotal tubercle small; pronotal fovea shallow and narrow; protibia with 3 large teeth and an additional basal denticle; apex of metatibia with 8–15 spinules; parameres elongate from basal fourth to apex, sides nearly parallel, without lateral teeth, apices acute ( Figs. 28–29 ).

Locality records ( Fig. 30 ). 16 males and 11 females from MEKRB, MNHN, USNM, SENASA, and UGBC. Arequipa (3): Camaná. Camaná, Quilca , Quiroz. Lima (19): Canta , Santa Rosa de Quives. Cañete. Huarochirí , Santa Eulalia. Huaura, Végueta, Medio Mundo. Lima. Imprecise data (5): Peru .

Temporal distribution. January (1), February (3), August (2), October (1), November (6), December (8). No data (6).

Distribution. Peru and Chile ( Dupuis 2014; López-García & Deloya 2018).

Natural history. The examined specimens were found between 12–1036 m.
