Key to the species of Bergiantina

1. Hindwing ground color white or yellowish white, with no conspicuous dark marginal band ( Figs. 5–8); if hindwing ground color orange yellow, then marginal band not extending basally through costa ( Figs. 1–4). Valve of male genitalia increasing their size to the middle, apical half of right valve without depressions and apex rounded with one or two apical knobs ( Figs. 18–22). ( schausi View in CoL group) .......................................................................................................... 2

1’. Hindwing ground color orange yellow, with marginal band extending basally through costa ( Figs. 9–14); some specimens from Peru with hindwing white, only differentiable of the species of the schausi View in CoL group by its genitalia. Valve of male genitalia increase their size to the tip, apical half of right valve with a wide middle conical depression (medial notch) on ventral margin of valvula and apex flattened and ear-shaped ( Figs. 23–26). 2’. Hindwing ground color white or yellowish white, with no conspicuous dark marginal band ( Figs. 5–8)................... 4

3. Forewing outer margin of postmedial line with three white distal patches: from costa to R 5, from M 1 to M 3 and from CuA 2 to A1 + A2 ( Figs. 1 and 2). Left plate of aedoeagus long, reaching the posterior end, with two lateral teeth, posterior greater than anterior one, and a greater terminal tooth ( Fig. 35) ................................. B. schausi (Jörgensen) View in CoL

3’. Forewing outer margin of postmedial line with a continuous white strip only interrupted between CuA1-CuA2 ( Figs. 3 and 4). Left plate of aedoeagus short, not reaching the end and without tooth ( Fig. 36) ......... B. intermedia sp nov.

4. Small, from 15.6 to 16.7 mm. Orbicular spot absent in some specimens and in other represented as a swelling of the antemedial line ( Fig. 5) ........................................................................................................................ B. parva sp nov.

4’. Bigger, from 21.2 to 23.2 mm. Orbicular spot black ( Fig. 7 and 8) ............................................................................. 5

5. Forewing ground color dark greyish red, densely covered with white scales; discal cell white ( Fig. 7); horn-like dorsal projection of aedoeagus 1/3X as long as aedoeagus, rugous on the posterior side ( Fig. 30) ............ B trita (Druce)

5’. Forewing ground color brownish red, densely covered with white scales; discal cell as ground color ( Fig. 8); hornlike dorsal projection of aedoeagus 1/2X as long as aedoeagus, smooth ( Fig. 31) ............................. B dolens (Druce)
