Endemic to the Malagasy Subregion. Sceliphron fuscum has been accidentally introduced

into New Caledonia, where it has been described as Sceliphron quodi VACHAL 1907. There are subsequent records from New Caledonia, but no recent records are known to me. I failed to collect Sceliphron fuscum during a trip to New Caledonia in 2009. Sphex hemipterus FABRICIUS, 1798 is a junior homonym of Sphex hemipterus SCOPOLI, 1772 and Pelopoeus fuscus LEPELETIER DE SAINT- FARGEAU, 1845 of Sceliphron fuscum KLUG, 1801 .
