Known from the Australian, Ethiopian, Neotropical and Oriental regions. LECLERCQ (1961: 101) is convinced, that Ampulex compressa does not occur in Madagascar. LECLERCQ (1976: 202) recorded two specimens from Andekaleka (Rogez) and Andasibe (Perinet), but their origins are also dubious. As Ampulex compressa has been found in urban habitats, an initial occurrence in coastal towns with a harbour is possible.
