Material studied. Holotype: ♁: NEW CALEDONIA, with two labels: “ NEW CALEDONIA, 11822 / 22°19’S x 166°55’E, 480m / Forest Nord, site 1, rainfor. / 2-3 Dec 2004, pyrethrum / CJ Burwell & GB Monteith“ [white, printed], “QUEENSLAND / MUSEUM LOAN / Date: January 2006 / No. LE 06.01 “ [green, printed] ( MNHN) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: 2 ♁♁: same data as for holotype ( QMBA, PCPH) GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. Profemora in male with straight basal spine; body length only 1.75–1.80 mm; antennomeres 9 and 10 each strongly transverse; transverse basal impression on the first visible abdominal tergite poorly defined, with discal carinae not reaching 1/3 of tergite; aedeagus with median lobe symmetrical and its apex undivided, endophallic sclerites forming four groups, of which one is median and composed of only four sclerites, and distally to them two lateral and one median groups are situated, all connected and developed as a transverse row of sclerites; parameres with narrowed, subtriangular apices curved mesad, each with one apical seta.

Description. Body bicoloured, head and pronotum pitchy black, elytra and abdomen reddish-brown, in some specimens elytra lighter than abdomen; maxillary palpi, antennae and legs same colour as abdomen, distal antennomeres lighter, yellowish-brown. Body length 1.75–1.80 mm, maximum width 0.65–0.70 mm.

Head 1.00–1.05 times as wide as long. External apical margin of maxillary palpomere 2 evenly rounded, not projecting; palpomere 3 subrectangular, external margin rounded; palpomere 4 slender, 0.26 mm long, about 4 times as long as wide.

Antennae 0.91 mm long, scape 2.15–2.30 times as long as pedicel; pedicel 1.20–1.30 times longer than antennomere 3; antennomere 4 elongate, 1.2 times as long as 3; antennomere 5 elongate, 1.23–1.33 times as long as 6; antennomere 7 1.00–1.18 times as long as 6 and about 1.2 times as long as 8; antennomere 9 1.33–1.42 times as wide as long; antennomere 10 transverse, 1.40–1.45 times as wide as long, about 1.4 times as long as 9; antennomere 11 0.22 mm long, asymmetrical, with basal notch.

Pronotum about 1.2 times as wide as long, 1.05 times as long and 1.12–1.16 times as wide as head.

Elytra 1.50–1.60 times as long as pronotum, 1.14–1.17 times as wide as long.

First visible abdominal tergite (IV) with basal impression poorly defined, discal carinae short, not reaching basal third of tergite.

Profemora with basal spine straight; protibiae in apical fourth with spine.

Aedeagus ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 17–30 ) in dorsal view symmetrical, 0.42 mm long, apex of median lobe undivided; endophallic sclerites forming four groups, of which one is median and composed of only four sclerites, and distally to them two lateral and one median groups are situated, all connected and developed as a transverse row of sclerites; parameres with narrowed, subtriangular apices curved mesad, each with one apical seta.

Etymology. Named after C. J. Burwell (QMBA), one of the collectors of the type series.

Distribution. New Caledonia, Northern Province.

Remarks. All studied specimens were collected in a tropical forest by pyrethrum fogging.
