Adelopsis szymczakowskii View in CoL , new species

( Figs. 143–149 View FIGURES 143–149 )

Adelopsis benardi View in CoL ; Szymczakowski, 1963: 670 (as “? bernardi ” [sic]) [and Figs. 8–9 View FIGURES 4–16 ] (misidentification—Gnaspini, 1996: 540, and see Notes under A. benardi View in CoL , above).

Holotype, male ( NMPC). Type locality and data: Brazil: São Paulo State: São Paulo, Jaro Mráz leg. Labels : “ São Paulo / Bras. Mráz lgt / Mus. Pragense ”. Specimen here illustrated. Note : specimen misidentified as Adelopsis benardi ( Portevin, 1923) in Szymczakowski (1963: 670) — Gnaspini , 1996: 540, and see Notes under A. benardi, above.

Length: 2.5 mm (our measurement; agrees with Szymczakowski, 1963).

Short Description. Data on eyes and wings not observed.Apex of the right lobe of the aedeagus subquadrate and bearing two triangular projections at the sides ( Fig. 145 View FIGURES 143–149 ), with a sinuate margin ending almost blunt with a pointy projection, in lateral view ( Fig. 143 View FIGURES 143–149 ). Flagellum almost as long as aedeagus, strongly curved and projected laterally, forming a tape-shaped coil longer than 1-turn ( Fig. 143 View FIGURES 143–149 ). Proportion aedeagus/elytron = 0.33. Spiculum gastrale of the genital segment with a very short and wide base, with a curved margin, and divided at apex, with long branches ( Fig. 147 View FIGURES 143–149 ). Female unknown.

Etymology. The name is given in honor of Wacław Szymczakowski, who examined the specimen, for his large contribution to systematics of cholevines.

Distribution. Brazil: São Paulo State: known only from type locality.

Taxonomic Remarks. The lateral view of the aedeagus ( Fig. 143 View FIGURES 143–149 ), together with the frontal view of the tip of the right lobe of the aedeagus ( Fig. 145 View FIGURES 143–149 ) and the coiled tape shaped flagellum ( Fig. 143 View FIGURES 143–149 ), seems to help in the recognition of this species.
