Type Species. Chleuastochoerus stehlini ( Schlosser, 1903)

Locality and Horizon. “ Hipparion Red Clay ” of northern China, late Miocene-early Pliocene (MN 9 – MN 14); Taralyk-Cher Locality, Tuva, Russia, late Miocene, Edygei Formation; Yunnan Province (identification uncertain), South China, late Miocene; Hangmon, Vietnam (identification uncertain), late Miocene.

Revised diagnosis. Small and primitive Hyotheriinae differing from other Hyotheriinae by larger prezygomatic plate and supra-canine arch-niche in males, weakly convergent parietal crests, small and downwardly directed paroccipital process, small and low coronoid process, unique muscle attachment on the lateral side of horizontal rami in males, longer p1-p2 diastema, small and primitive incisors, stout and antero-downwardly and slightly outwardly projecting upper canine, clearly separated paracone and metacone in the P4, bifid main cusp and isolated talonid in the p4.
