1 The material recorded from “Santa Cruz” was collected by Camille van Volxem in October 10th to 17th, 1872. During the short period spent in Rio de Janeiro City (July 31st to October 20th, 1872), he explored various environments including marshes in Santa Cruz ( Lameere 1884).

2 The material record from “Santa Rita” was collected by the Finnish R. F. Sahlberg in August 1850. Nilsson (2013: 213) mentions “Santa Rita [da Floresta]” as type locality of Macrovatellus marginalis Sharp (junior synonym of Vatellus lateralis (Sharp)) , now district of Cantagalo Municipality, Rio de Janeiro State. Although in August 1850 Sahlberg explored the district of Cantagalo for three months ( Papavero 1973), the villa of Santa Rita da Floresta was founded in 1876 by Portuguese immigrant Captain Bernardo de Souza and his cousins. Papavero (1973) mentions that Sahlberg visited the golden mines in Minas Gerais and must have collected in this state from Chapéu d’Uvas to Diamantina (the ancient Tejuco), and Santa Rita may have also been in this itinerary. Martins (2006) affirm that Santa Rita corresponds to Santa Rita Durão District (the ancient Inficionado), Mariana Municipality, Minas Gerais State, and in this way Nilsson corrected the type locality of M. marginalis in the last version of his catalogue (2015: 205).

3 In 1975, Mato Grosso State was divided into Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul States. Presently, Corumbá is the capital city of Mato Grosso do Sul State.

4 In Brazil there is no place called "Corrientes". The Argentine province of Corrientes borders with Brazil, which is demarcated by the Uruguay River.
