Mimetus insidiator Thorell, 1899: 29 . Female holotype from Cameroon. No specific collection data (“Feminam singulam vidi, a Sjöstedt in Camerun captam.”). No examined.

Diagnosis. Anansi insidiator can be distinguished from other mimetids by its short cymbio-ectal process, flagellum in the conductor that is as long as the maximum cymbium width and epigynum piriform with its base wider.

Description. Male ( Figs. 14 View Fig. 14 and 15 View Fig. 15 ; GH98 4, GH1576). Habitus as in Figures 1 4 View Fig. 1 View Fig. 2 A – C. Total length 5.37; cephalothorax 2.48 long, 1.82 wide, 0.94 high; abdomen 2.74 long, 1.54 wide, 1.62 high. Carapace pale yellow with two lines of macrosetae running from fovea to ocular area and a dark brown stripe running longitudinally from edge to margin, wider from fovea to anterior carapace margin ( Fig. 14 View Fig. 14 A). Sternum yellowish ( Fig. 14 View Fig. 14 C), 1.07 long, 0.81 wide, labium 0.46 long, 0.35 wide; darker than sternum ( Fig. 14 View Fig. 14 J). Clypeus 0.17 high; AME inter-distance 0.12, PME 0.09. PME-AME distance 0.14; AME-ALE 0.10; PME-PLE 0.18. Chelicerae yellow with distal margins dark brown ( Fig. 13 View Fig. 13 D); ChL 1.11; ChW1 0.33; ChW2 0.32. Palp as in Figures 13 View Fig. 13 E – I and 15B – H. Cymbium ( Figs. 14 View Fig. 14 E – I) 0.75 long 0.33 wide, with a short ectobasal process next to paracymbium ( Figs. 15 View Fig. 15 B – C). Paracymbium spoon-shaped; tegulum discoid, embolus flagelliform, running parallel to tegulum ( Figs. 14 View Fig. 14 E, H); conductor projecting ventrally, with a flagellum that is approximately half the length of embolus ( Figs. 14 View Fig. 14 E, H; 15G, H). Epiandrous fusules in two clusters; each cluster on a protuberance that carries ca. 5 fusules ( Fig. 15 View Fig. 15 A). Spinnerets as in Figures 15 View Fig. 15 I – K.

Female. ( Figs. 16 View Fig. 16 and 17 View Fig. 17 ; GH985-GH986). Habitus as in Figures 16 View Fig. 16 A – C. Total length 4.77, cephalothorax 3.04 long, 1.47 wide, 0.97 high; abdomen 2.60 long 1.44 wide, 1.23 high. Carapace pale yellow with two lines of setae that run from fovea to ocular area. Sternum light yellow. Clypeus 0.15 high; AME inter-distance 0.12, PME 0.04. PME-AME distance 0.13; AME-ALE 0.12; PME-PLE 0.18. ChL 1.62; ChW1 0.42; ChW2 0.45 ( Fig. 16 View Fig. 16 C). Epigynum projecting posteriorly 0.55 long, 0.40 wide, piriform, with its base wider and narrower towards its apex ( Figs. 16 View Fig. 16 D; 17B – C). Copulatory openings facing posteriorly ( Figs. 17 View Fig. 17 D – E); oval spermathecae; copulatory ducts as long as the spermathecae. Spinnerets as in Figures 17 View Fig. 17 F- H. PLS without cylindrical spigots ( Fig. 17 View Fig. 17 H).

Distribution. Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Remarks. Although we were unable to examine Thorell’s type specimen of Mimetus insidiator , his description and additional descriptions and drawings in the works of Simon (1903) and Lessert (1930), and the thesis of Harms (2007), allow the species identification.
