Branch (2018) refered to Angolan records of this species as Naja (Afronaja) nigricincta nigricincta , while Marques et al. (2018) followed Wüster et al. (2007) and their molecular results, using N. nigricincta . This specimen was not cited by Ferreira (1904, 1906). From the localities in which Newton collected, N. nigricincta is known from “Foz do Cunene”, Namibe Province ( Marques et al. 2018).
