( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 A–D)

Larva. Remarks. Larvae associated with adults using genetic methods. Similar to D. aryballoi but genetically and morphologically distinct with a diagnostic difference in the complete covering of the femora with globular setae. The current distribution range is from north-eastern New South Wales to the Gippsland area in Victoria.

Length: 5 mm.

Colour: Light brown. May also be dark brown with lighter patches particularly on Meso- and meta-nota.

Body: Covered dorsally, and often ventrally, with closely spaced globular hairs. Small, abdomen and thorax subequal (abdomen smaller in earlier instars).

Head: Smaller than thorax. Dorsal surface of head with small globular hairs present; some smooth patches also present that are a slightly darker brown. Antennae long and tapering; proximal segments as wide as pedicle, distal segments elongate (length much greater than width).

Thorax: Corners of pronotum drawn out into obvious points (all four corners), front projections narrow; side margins of thorax parallel. Meso- and meta-nota width greater than length; posterior margins of wingpads widely rounded (later instars). Margins of thoracic segments with long and broad robust sickle-shaped setae.

Legs: Femora and tibiae with all surfaces covered with globular setae. Tibiae with fringe of long fine setae on outer margin and fringe of long robust setae on inner margin. Third tarsal segment with inner margin with setal fringe; tarsal claw between half to a third length of third tarsal segment.

Abdomen: Cerci length less than abdomen; thin elongate segment that often break often giving shortened appearance. Tergites with scattered long fine setae (sticky hairs that are often coated with silt) in lateral and dorsal areas of anterior half; posterior segments with robust globular setae present. Hind margin of tergite X with long straight robust setae present. Sternites also with small globular setae present. Ventral surface of paraprocts also with globular hairs present.
