Length: 5.5–7.5 mm.

Colour: Brown with anterior half of meso- and meta-nota lighter in colour.

Body: Early instars often with a ‘fuzzy’ appearance due to silt sticking to setae or hairs. Mid to late instars generally with dorsal surface covered with long robust tear-shaped setae which curl, some scattered long fine hairs also present.

Head: Unicoloured with faint mottling. Antennae usually as long as body, robust.

Thorax: With bosses at the base of wingpads. Ventral surface covered with short robust setae. Pronotum subequal to head; corners rounded and not flanged. Meso- and meta-nota with hind margins convex. Raised bosses present and usually pale.

Legs: Single dark stripe on outer surface of femora and tibiae. Inner surface of femora with two dark stripes (one distal, one proximal). Fringe of long fine hairs on femora and tibiae; long robust setae present on all surfaces.

Abdomen: Tergite X with denser covering of long robust tear-shaped setae; hind margin with same setae as dorsal surface. Cerci very long and thin, length greater than width by approximately segment 10; setae on margin of cercal segments as long as segment in area of gill tuft only. Paraprocts triangular, length similar to width at base. Gills light orange.
